Coptersafety to open new helicopter training center in Oslo, Norway

The new facility will expand simulator training capacity as demand grows across HEMS, search and rescue, and offshore operations

Helicopter simulator training provider Coptersafety has announced plans to open a new training center in Oslo, Norway, as demand for pilot training continues to increase across Europe.

The purpose-built facility, scheduled to open in 2028, will complement the company’s existing headquarters and training center near Helsinki Airport and provide additional simulator capacity for commercial, government, and private helicopter operators.

Coptersafety said the new center was intended to support growing demand from sectors including helicopter emergency medical services (HEMS), search and rescue (SAR), and offshore operations.

The facility will initially house a Level D H135/H145 full flight simulator, with additional simulator platforms to be announced at a later date. The center will also include a range of other training devices and will offer integrated ground and flight training.

Hannu Marjoniemi, CEO of Coptersafety, said: “Our Helsinki headquarters and training center will be at maximum simulator capacity in the next two years, yet the need for pilot training in Europe and globally is only increasing.”

He added that the Oslo facility would provide operators with additional training capacity and greater flexibility by offering a second Nordic location.

Located near Oslo Gardermoen Airport, the center will follow the same training model as Coptersafety’s Helsinki operation, combining classroom instruction with simulator-based flight training.

Elsewhere in the sector, Poland’s medical air rescue service, LPR, recently expanded its pilot training capability with a new EC135 full flight simulator, designed to support HEMS crews while reducing the need for live training flights.
