UK-based Cornwall Air Ambulance is encouraging supporters to dress as superheroes for their latest fundraising challenge

The lifesaving charity has launched the ‘5K in a Day - Superhero Challenge’ asking supporters to walk, run, jog, cycle any route of their choice over the weekend of 5 to 6 June, to raise vital funds to keep the helicopter flying and saving lives across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. It’s free to sign up and participants who raise a minimum of £20 in sponsorship will receive a superhero medal as a thank you from Cornwall Air Ambulance.

Sherelle Puertas, Fundraising Officer for Cornwall Air Ambulance, said: “Lots of people regard the aircrew as heroes working on the frontline, but our supporters are heroes too – they keep the helicopter flying each year. That is why we wanted to launch this brand-new challenge.

“It’s a fun, family-friendly event and you can even get the dog involved! Whether you complete your 5k as your favourite superhero or just as the hero you are without a costume, we just want people to have fun and hopefully raise some money in the process. Any donation, big or small, will help towards saving lives here in Cornwall.”

Fundraising for the charity important as it’s busier than ever

With visitors planning on flocking to the county in their millions this summer, the critical care team could be busier than ever and fundraising for the charity has never been so important.

Recently, a teenage patient became the first person to receive a blood transfusion at the scene of an incident thanks to a new partnership between medical services in the UK, including Cornwall Air Ambulance.
