Court appoints supervisory trustee to Red Star Aviation

A court has appointed a supervisory trustee to Turkish air ambulance operator Red Star Aviation amid ongoing legal proceedings involving the company’s shareholders.

Red Star Aviation provides ambulance aircraft services to Türkiye’s Ministry of Health, which leases aircraft from the company to support its medical transport operations.

The appointment does not transfer control of Red Star Aviation to the trustee, according to reports in Turkish aviation media. The company’s existing management will remain in place and continue to oversee its day-to-day operations.

Instead, the court-appointed trustee will have a supervisory role covering areas including critical management decisions and significant financial transactions.

Under such an arrangement, a trustee can be given powers to review certain decisions, participate in the approval of transactions or oppose them where necessary, depending on the scope of the court order.

The measure was reportedly introduced because of ongoing court proceedings involving Red Star Aviation’s shareholders. No disruption to the company's air ambulance operations has been reported in connection with the appointment.

Red Star Aviation’s largest shareholder is Qatar-based Gulf Helicopters, which holds a 49% stake in the company.

The Turkish operator provides air ambulance and aviation services and has previously worked with public-sector organisations in Türkiye.

Its relationship with the Ministry of Health makes the development relevant to the country's medical transport infrastructure, although the court's decision does not indicate that responsibility for the company's operations has changed.

The supervisory arrangement means Red Star Aviation’s management can continue running the business while specified decisions and financial transactions are subject to additional court-appointed oversight.
