Dallas Avionics brings aviation to life for Texas students

Dallas Avionics teamed up with Texas Parks and Wildlife and Friedens Early Learning Academy last week to deliver an unforgettable aviation experience for children in Seguin, Texas. The event offered students the chance to explore a real helicopter, meet pilots, and learn about the critical roles rotorcraft play in emergencies.

“The aviation industry needs to continually reach out to young students to teach them all about becoming pilots, crewmembers, and aviation mechanics,” said Dallas Avionics Government Agency Sales Executive Cody Klaehn. “With the recent floods in Texas, students saw firsthand how important helicopters can be to protect our region.”

The helicopter on display was flown in by Texas Parks and Wildlife, whose crews had recently supported flood rescue operations. One of the crew members present had taken part in multiple rescues and answered questions from students about his experiences.

Friedens Director Cambry Terry said the visit complemented lessons about community helpers and transportation. “Our students at Friedens Early Learning Academy had a sky-high learning experience when they got to see a real helicopter up close during a special demonstration on campus,” Terry said. “They allowed our children to sit in the pilot seats and look around… It was such a memorable experience for our kiddos to watch the helicopter take flight and head back to work!”

Klaehn, who travels nationwide teaching law enforcement classes and leading community outreach, said the students’ curiosity stood out. “The funniest question was from a young student who asked if he could hunt wild pigs that are prevalent in Texas from a helicopter,” he said. “Stirring up the imagination and dreams of even one student who could go on to become the next pilot or crewmember who helps save lives is so important.”

Klaehn recently completed a multi-day training session for the Minnesota state police.
