DRF Luftrettung joins BPiK
The air medical organization is the first of its kind to join the German patient advocate association
Air ambulance provider DRF Luftrettung has announced that it has joined the German Federal Association of Patient Advocates in Hospitals (BPiK).
The organization is the first air rescue operator in Germany to be accepted as an institutional member of BPiK – a move that reflects DRF Luftrettung’s own efforts to expand patient advocacy.
DRF Luftrettung stated that patient advocates serve as a central point of contact for patients following an operation, mediating in conflicts and ensuring that information, praise, and criticism is incorporated into processes.
“Last year, we conducted our first patient survey. Around 95% of the participants expressed their satisfaction with the care provided – an extremely positive feedback, especially because emergency situations are unusual and extremely stressful,” said Thomas Zecho, Head of Medical Controlling at DRF Luftrettung. “The results provide us with valuable information that we gratefully accept, discuss internally, and initiate improvement processes.”
He added: “We are currently preparing the second survey. With the patient advocate and the regular surveys, we are creating a strong basis for continuously improving the quality of our care.”
DRF Luftrettung also recently secured a new long-term contract to continue operations from its base in Mannheim.
