They will support authorities, crisis teams, and incident commanders with their expertise in the event of a disaster
German air rescue service DRF Luftrettung has announced that it is further expanding its expertise and equipment to support the authorities in the event of a disaster. This includes the introduction of ‘air rescue consultants’.
These consultants will be specialist advisors, specially trained and equipped for disaster scenarios, and will be available throughout Germany in future, supporting authorities, crisis teams, and incident commanders with their expertise.
A total of eight employees will acquire the additional qualification within the DRF Academy training courses to be an air rescue consultant for disaster situations.
Florian Klinner, Head of the Security Department of DRF Luftrettung, will lead the training. He said: “It is particularly important to us to carry out the training in a practical and application-oriented manner. The central topics will be operations management and communication. The role of the future specialists will include, among other things, maintaining close contact with the relevant authorities and providing expert advice on the efficient use of our helicopters in the event of a disaster.”
Since October 2021, DRF Luftrettung has had two disaster helicopters permanently on standby, which are stationed at the Operation Center and at the Bautzen station. With the creation of air rescue consultants, the possibility of DRF Luftrettung to provide support in the event of a disaster will be significantly expanded.
