EAAA’s Liam Sagi wins Critical Care Practitioner of the Year
The award winner was announced during the Air Ambulances UK Awards ceremony last week
East Anglian Air Ambulance (EAAA) Critical Care Paramedic Liam Sagi has been named Critical Care Practitioner of the Year at the Air Ambulances UK Awards of Excellence at a virtual ceremony on 3 December.
Upon winning the award, Sagi said: “Just to be nominated for this award is a huge honour. I feel incredibly privileged to do my job and I love being able to help people at their worst hour so to be presented with this award is truly humbling. I am very thankful.”
He is also regularly involved in fundraising and awareness events for EAAA, such as hosting EAAA’s Annual Roadshow in October, and has also volunteered 1,200 hours as a Critical Care Paramedic for Suffolk Accident Rescue Service (SARS) over the past 15 months. Sagi also reportedly helped to save a colleague who was involved in a road traffic collision in 2020, providing lifesaving care and flying her to the major trauma treatment for further treatment.
Outstanding nominees at this year’s Air Ambulances UK awards
Sagi, who has worked with the charity since 2018, was described by the charity as ‘an indispensable and supportive team member’ who ‘stands out for his remarkable motivation and dedication to the charity’.
“Liam is an absolutely outstanding member of the team who is not only brilliant in delivering pre-hospital emergency medicine for his patients but also brings boundless energy and enthusiasm to the workplace,” said Matthew Jones, CEO of EAAA. “He has done a fantastic job in supporting various charity projects over the last 12 months and I am utterly delighted that he has been recognised with this award.”
In addition to Sagi’s award win, EAAA was also shortlisted in four other categories at this year’s awards, including for Campaign of the Year, Charity Team of the Year, Special Incident of the Year and Pilot of the Year.
“The nominations for this year’s awards were truly outstanding and are a great reflection of the day to day work that air ambulance charity team members and volunteers do to help save lives and improve patient outcomes,” said Simmy Akhtar, CEO of Air Ambulances UK. “I would like to congratulate all of our winners and thank them for their valuable and inspirational contribution to helping people in their time of need.”
EAAA also opened its new 24/7 operational base and headquarters in Norwich on 16 September.
