East Anglian Air Ambulance launches new base consultation
The English air ambulance charity is seeking community feedback regarding its plans for a new base, due to open by 2027
The UK’s East Anglian Air Ambulance (EAAA) has launched a community consultation for its new air base near the city of Cambridge, prior to its planning application submission to South Cambridgeshire District Council.
The consultation will include a drop-in session on 3 September, and feedback about the proposals can be submitted via the charity’s website until 17 September.
The new base will be situated on the Balsham Road in Fulbourn, east of Cambridge, and is due to open by 2027.
The base will offer a range of operational improvements, including “improvements to clinical training, crew welfare, aftercare facilities, and community engagement”.
The charity is relocating there due to the impending closure of Cambridge City Airport, where EAAA has been based for the past 18 years.
“We have been working extremely hard behind the scenes for the last 24 months to identify a suitable location for EAAA’s new Cambridge-based home, which offers similar response times to our current base,” said Matthew Jones, CEO of East Anglian Air Ambulance.
“As we begin to progress a planning application for our proposed new base, we are committed to working openly and collaboratively with the local community. We are engaging closely with neighbors, the local authority, and relevant partners to ensure that feedback is carefully considered as our proposals evolve,” he added.
Further south, the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance (HIOWAA) began construction of its own new base near Southampton Airport last month.
