Egypt to buy Chinooks
The Egyptian Air Force will purchase a fleet of 12 CH-47F Chinooks worth US$426 million from Boeing
The aircraft will replace the country’s existing fleet of older CH-47D Chinooks, offering enhanced capabilities over its predecessors.
The CH-47F is equipped with a fully-integrated digital cockpit management system, a Common Avionics Architecture System cockpit, and advanced cargo-handling capabilities.
The CH-47F has a troop capacity of 33 troops plus three crew members, and can travel at maximum cruise speed of 160kn (296km/h). It has a maximum gross weight of 50,000lb (22,680kg).
“The F-model aircraft will enhance Egypt’s Chinook capabilities and help effectively accomplish its heavy-lift objectives,” said Ken Eland, vice president and H-47 program manager. “Boeing’s partnership with the Egyptian Air Force remains strong as we continue to work together to modernize their fleet.”
The US State Department recently approved the potential sale of 18 CH-47F Chinooks to South Korea in December 2022, while the German government also expressed its own intention to purchase 60 new Chinooks in June.
