Entrol completes H145 FTD FAT for GCH Aviation

Advanced visual, mixed reality and mission-specific systems will allow the New Zealand operator to rehearse complex helicopter operations in a highly immersive environment
Entrol has completed the factory acceptance test (FAT) for a Level 5 H145 flight training device (FTD) for New Zealand operator GCH Aviation. Installation is scheduled for the first quarter of 2026.
The simulator is designed to enhance pilot training with a focus on operational safety, instrument flight rules (IFR) proficiency, and specialized air ambulance mission readiness.
Based on the Airbus H145, the FTD features a cockpit equipped with dual GTN 750Xi units. A key feature is entrol’s ENWALL Complete LED visual system, which provides an immersive environment, including LED panels on the floor. This enables pilots to maintain visual contact with the ground or hoist area, an important aspect of helicopter operations.
The visual system is powered by entrol’s ENVISION platform using Unreal Engine. The database includes nine generic airports and heliports with 3D buildings and realistic surroundings, along with one specific heliport featuring high-precision 3D objects to replicate real-world operational challenges.
Mission training capability is expanded through several additional systems. A mixed reality hoist operator station supports coordinated pilot and crew training, while a vibration system replicates flight sensations from rotor dynamics to ground contact. The enclosed instructor station includes two 24in touchscreens, an additional thin-film-transistor (TFT) display for mission monitoring, and an iPad for mobile control, along with tools for real-time monitoring and detailed post-flight debriefing.
