European Medical Drone orders Aero2 drones
Swedish medical logistics firm European Medical Drone has placed an order for 11 Aero2 tilt-wing drones from Dufour Aerospace
European Medical Drone’s new Aero2 fleet will include one Aero2 X2.3 prototype drone – due for delivery in 2024 – as well as 10 more serial Aero2 drones that will be delivered from 2026 onwards.
Alongside the order, European Medical Drone has signed a development cooperation agreement with Dufour.
The transaction between the two firms is being assisted by Dufour’s Swedish vendor, Savback Helicopters.
As part of the development agreement, the three companies will work together to establish the first Aero2-operated logistics routes between hospitals in Sweden.
European Medical Drone stated that this will include ‘drafting necessary concepts of operations, submitting the necessary documentation to the authorities, and carrying out trial operations to identify both the potential and limitations of operations, and implementing use case specific requirements into the aircraft’.
“Our mission is to facilitate sharing of vital resources among hospitals,” said Martin Braaen, founder of European Medical Drone. “As we have a focus on connecting hospitals which are several hundred kilometers apart, we need long-range, heavy-lift, uncrewed aircraft with a lot of redundancy for safety.”
“With the addition of Dufour Aerospace, we will be one step closer to the aim of connecting hospitals with automated, fast and reliable transportation services also in large countries like Sweden,” he added.
Dufour Aerospace recently announced plans to begin commercial production of the Aero2 in 2025, alongside a successful demonstration of its X2.2 prototype.
