Five injured Ukrainian soldiers flown to Ireland
Two soldiers were brought to Cork University Hospital on Friday 10 June, and three were delivered to Beaumont Hospital in Dublin and University Hospital Galway on 12 June
The medical transfers mark the first time that Ukrainian war casualties have been brought to Ireland since the invasion of Ukraine by Russia on 24 February.
The transfers were arranged by the European Union (EU), and Ireland’s National Ambulance Service and Health Service Executive (HSE) under a diplomatic arrangement, according to a report by TheJournal.ie website.
The transfers were confirmed on Twitter by Mike O’Connor, Ireland’s National Clinical Advisor for Acute Hospitals, in a tweet on 12 June.
The EU is also operating medical evacuations of chronically ill refugees fleeing the conflict under its rescEU initiative, which coordinates EU responses to natural or manmade disasters, as part of efforts to manage the humanitarian crisis on its eastern borders.
