Flight nursing webinar: complex transfers and the future of travel
The UK’s Royal College of Nursing (RCN) is to host a webinar on 27 April where they discuss how the aviation medicine industry has adapted and responded at pace to an evolving pandemic environment
The webinar will address complex clinical cases and associated intricate logistical challenges during a pandemic. The speakers’ content will provoke thought around how industry experts can respond to a changing environment and proactively pre-empt solutions. The RCN’s Critical Care and Flight Nursing Forum Chair, Kerryn McGowran, will open the webinar, and will be followed by a series of industry experts.
Talking about the future of, and key considerations for, international travel will be Hilary Simons, Senior Specialist Nurse, Travel Health, from the National Travel Health Network and Centre. Thomas Burren, Head of Flight Nurses for Swiss Air Rescue Rega will follow, discussing the issue of considerations for extra corporeal membrane oxygenation transports and, finally, Rachele Pretorius and Karien Basson from Air Rescue Africa will share their experiences of transporting patients during the Covid-19 pandemic.
The RCN said the webinar should encourage medical professionals to take time out and reflect on what they may be able to do to improve the patient experience and outcomes and ask experts their opinion on treatment and transport protocols, all while accruing 1.5 continuing professional development hours.
