HAA to launch new helicopter
Haiti Air Ambulance (HAA) has announced plans to acquire an additional helicopter to provide support to new mothers and babies
The non-profit organization said that the new helicopter would be ‘equipped to provide emergency medical care for pregnant women and new mothers and babies’, featuring ultrasound and an ‘infant warming pod’. The new aircraft will also have space to accommodate a family member, in addition to crew, medical staff and the patient.
HAA added that ‘with the addition of a new helicopter, [they] will be able to transport, triage, and treat twice as many patients as before, including maternity cases’.
Prenatal and neonatal operations are a top priority for HAA due to a lack of accessible care on the island. The organization stated that approximately 40 per cent of their patients have been mothers with newborns.
HAA’s Executive Director, David Ellis was the winner of the Golden Hour Award at this year’s HAI Salute to Excellence Awards, in recognition of his work for the non-profit.
