HAL awarded contract to upgrade Indian Dornier fleet
The Indian Ministry of Defence has awarded a contract to Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) for the mid-life upgrade of 25 Dornier 228s
The ₹28.9 billion (US$346.3 million) contract to upgrade the fixed-wing fleet was awarded on 14 March.
The upgrade will include the installation of new avionics systems and primary role sensors, as well as a range of other “associated equipment”.
The planes are used by the Indian Navy for a number of roles, including maritime and coastal surveillance, electronic intelligence, search and rescue, and medical evacuation.
It is expected that the upgrade will “significantly enhance” the fleet’s operational capability across all of these mission types.
HAL previously announced a partnership with UAE-based medical service provider Response Plus Holding in February 2023.
