Hellenic Fire Service adds satcom to DA62 MPP fleet

SD Government, a division of Gogo, and Diamond Aircraft Industries have announced the integration of advanced satellite communications (satcom) for the Hellenic Fire Service’s fleet of Diamond DA62 multipurpose platform aircraft.

SDG will provide a beyond-line-of-sight (BLOS) connectivity solution featuring the Gogo Plane Simple Ku-band (PSKu) antenna system, powered by the SES FlexAir network. The tail-mounted terminal uses just two line-replaceable units (LRUs), simplifying installation while supporting high-throughput communications for intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) and civil protection missions.

The Hellenic Fire Service recently received three DA62 MPP aircraft under the AEGIS civil protection program, Greece’s largest modernization of aerial emergency assets. Equipped with electro-optical, infrared, and thermal sensors, the aircraft serve as airborne command-and-control nodes, supporting wildfire suppression, disaster response, and wide-area surveillance.

Through SES FlexAir, the aircraft gain reliable satellite connectivity for applications including real-time video streaming, sensor data transfer, and secure communications between air and ground command centers. The satcom system is available as a factory line-fit or retrofit option, seamlessly integrating with DA62 MPP sensor payloads.
