ICARUS wins contract with AAR and the US Department of State Air Wing
Both the standard and the night-vision goggles (NVG)-compatible ICARUS visors are included in the contract
The ICARUS (Instrument Conditions Awareness Recognition and Understanding System) visor is a smart view-limiting device that allows pilot instructors to simulate degraded visual environments while in the air, the instructors are able to variably adjust visibility for the trainee in dynamic scenario-based training.
AAR Worldwide Aviation Support Services (WASS) provide global, expeditionary and conventional aviation solutions to the US Department of State Air Wing.
Blaine Tirendi, Deputy Chief of Standards for AAR WASS, said: “We are excited to be adding the ICARUS device to our training regimen. Our worldwide team of pilots will no doubt benefit from the realism that ICARUS provides in emulating marginal VFR and IFR conditions. ICARUS will be integrated in everything from routine progression and training, to evaluations, and will be an integral tool used in our new IIMC training program of instruction.”
Earlier this year, the US Army approved an Air Worthiness Release for the ICARUS devices on all of their UH-60L and UH/HH-60M Black Hawk aircraft.
