Improved air ambulance services to Grand Manan
Voyageur Aviation, a subsidiary of Chorus Aviation, has announced that its New Brunswick air ambulance will now serve the island of Grand Manan
The change follows an amendment to its contract with Ambulance New Brunswick (ANB) – a Crown Corporation that oversees all ambulance services in the Canadian province.
Voyageur Aviation currently operates two King Air 200 fixed-wing aircraft on behalf of ANB. In a statement, the company said that the amendment ‘enables broader usage of the secondary aircraft for air ambulance services, to include Grand Manan’.
The island – located roughly 32km south of Blacks Harbour, New Brunswick, and 15km east of the US town of Lubec, Maine, has a population of approximately 2,500 people. The island’s main healthcare facility is the eight-bed Grand Manan Hospital, which specializes in primary care, pediatrics, and family care.
“For over 25 years, Voyageur Aviation has served as the main air ambulance provider for New Brunswick,” said Cory Cousineau, President at Voyageur Aviation. “As we continue to collaborate with ANB and the Department of Health to enhance our services for the province, our team will maintain safe and reliable operations for the people of New Brunswick and the island of Grand Manan.”
Search and rescue operations in the city of St Johns, Newfoundland and Labrador, were taken over by the Newfoundland and Labrador Search and Rescue Association (NLSARA) earlier this year.
