Injured hunter flown from remote location in Irkutsk Region
The Russian Emergencies Ministry (EMERCOM) reports that rescuers on an Mi-8 helicopter have evacuated a hunter with a broken leg from taiga in the Irkutsk Region.A group of hunters found themselves in an emergency, said EMRCOM, after one was injured and their tracked vehicle broke down several kilometres away from their cabin. Using a makeshift stretcher, they took the injured hunter to a safe area and called for help via a satellite phone. “The next morning, rescuers and doctors from the regional Disaster Medicine Center were dispatched to Kachug District,” said Andrei Karmadanov, head of the search and rescue Service. “The hunters told us that they are located in the northwest of Kachug District, not far away from the estuary of the Bereya River, and said that there is a place where a helicopter can land just 300 m away from the cabin.” Upon arriving at the designated landing area, doctors rendered necessary medical aid to the injured hunter, before transporting him to the helicopter and evacuating him to a hospital in Irkutsk.
