LAR unveils second Challenger 605 jet
Luxembourg Air Rescue (LAR) has announced that its second Challenger 605 fixed-wing air ambulance jet is now in service
The aircraft, registration LX-AMB, arrived at LAR’s hangar at Luxembourg-Findel Airport in mid-August.
The plane has a range of up to 7,400km, and will be used to expand LAR’s long-distance air medical operations – from Luxembourg, it can reach the east coast of the Americas, Central Asia, and the Middle East, without stopping to refuel.
As well as long-distance medical repatriations and transfers, LAR said that the aircraft can also be used to support disaster relief and evacuation missions in the event of a crisis.
The cabin has space to accommodate two full intensive care units and a third stretcher if necessary, and is also equipped with an incubator.
It is the second Challenger 605 to join LAR’s fleet, with the first aircraft of that type entering service in 2021.
“The expansion of our long-haul fleet follows the prevailing trend towards increasingly distant travel destinations,” said René Closter, President of LAR. “By putting our second Challenger 605 into service, we are able to offer our LAR members and patients even more comfort and further expand and optimize our high standards of patient care on long flight routes.”
LAR suffered a severe fire earlier this year, which resulted in damage costing approximately €2 million.
