LASD airlifts injured scientist from offshore island

Suffering from a serious leg injury, the victim could not move from his position. He was located and transported to a mainland hospital by LASD Air Rescue personnel.
At approximately 11:30 hrs on 13 May, the scientist was working on indigenous plant re-introduction on San Clemente Island, when fell approximately 20 ft (six metres) down a steep 200-ft (60-m) ravine, landing in a precarious position. The 33-year-old man’s co-worker witnessed the incident and phoned for assistance.
Personnel from LASD Air Rescue and the San Clemente Island Federal Fire Department Battalion 13 responded to the scene, and LASD Special Enforcement Bureau Emergency Services Detail sheriff's paramedics were lowered from a helicopter with a hoist to provide medical treatment. After treatment, the victim was hoisted into the helicopter and flown to Harbor UCLA Medical Center, where he was reported to be in stable condition.
San Clemente Island lies within Los Angeles County, near Santa Catalina Island, and is owned by the US Navy. It is in the policing jurisdiction of Avalon Sheriff's Station of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.
