Leonardo Bristow contract

Bristow has signed a new agreement for the supply of up to 20 new AW189s, while Leonardo’s Japanese distributor has received orders for three AW139s

The announcements follow the receipt of another order for three AW139s from air medical provider LifeFlight Australia at HAI HELI-EXPO 2024 earlier this week.

A new framework agreement with Bristow

Helicopter operator Bristow Group has signed a new framework agreement with Leonardo for up to 20 new AW189 helicopters. The contract includes firm orders for 10 AW189s, as well as options for up to 10 more.

The aircraft will join the 21 rotorcraft of that type currently operated by Bristow globally, as well as five more due for delivery from Leonardo later this year.

The framework agreement will support Bristow’s fleet expansion plan for the 2025–28 period. The company currently uses its AW189 fleet for a range of operations, including for the provision of search and rescue (SAR) operations in the UK, the Netherlands, and Ireland. It also uses them to support the offshore energy sector.

“We’re proud to continue to provide our contribution to Bristow with this type, its technology and support solutions,” said Gian Piero Cutillo, Managing Director of Leonardo Helicopters.

Three more AW139s for Japanese operators

Leonardo and Mitsui Bussan Aerospace (MBA) – its authorized distributor in Japan – also announced that they have received orders for three AW139s.

The aircraft type is a popular choice in Japan for a range of public service mission types, including law enforcement, emergency medical services, search and rescue, firefighting, and disaster relief.

The three AW139s being delivered this year will go to the Hokuriku Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MoLIT Hokuriku); Ishikawa Prefecture Fire Fighting and Disaster Prevention; and Saitama Prefecture Fire Fighting and Prevention.

Additionally, the companies noted that one AW169 is due for delivery to the Chiba City Fire Department this year.
