Management post cull at Ornge

Ornge, the fixed and rotary-wing air ambulance provider for the Province of Ontario, Canada, has cut 25 senior jobs as part of a drive to streamline the company, reports The Star newspaper. Positions will either be changed or eliminated as Ornge is reorganised to focus on locally provided services as it drops the ambitions for international expansion harboured by former boss Dr Chris Mazza.

Commenting on the move, president and CEO of Ornge Dr Andrew McCallum told the newspaper: “There were an awful lot of managerial levels for that many employees.” He added: “The role of this organisation has been solidified and focused on Ontario. We’re not looking at the globe anymore.”

Along with the 25 jobs cut, a further 15 have been reclassified, while eight new posts have been added. Among the roles removed is vice-president, aviation. McCallum emphasised that no front-line jobs have been removed.

Frank Klees, a member of the Ontario provincial parliament and a long-time critic of Ornge, commented that there was ‘no question it was a bloated organisation’.
