Medical HondaJet overruns runway during landing in Japan
A medical transport jet sustained substantial damage after a runway excursion, but all three occupants escaped without injury
A Honda HA-420 HondaJet operated on a medical transport mission overran the runway while landing at Osaka Yao Airport in Japan on Friday, according to preliminary reports.
The aircraft, operated by Tokushukai Medical Group, had departed Tokyo Narita Airport before the runway excursion during landing on runway 27 at Yao Airport.
According to the Aviation Safety Network (ASN), the aircraft sustained substantial damage after overrunning the runway. No fire or fuel leak was reported, and all three occupants exited the aircraft without injury.
The flight was being conducted as an air ambulance mission.
Weather observations recorded around the time of the accident indicated light rain showers, low cloud, and light variable winds of 5–6kts.
The Japan Transport Safety Board (JTSB) has launched an investigation into the occurrence, which has been classified as a serious incident. The circumstances leading to the runway excursion have not yet been determined.
