Midlands Air Ambulance Charity completes £2m Strensham air base redevelopment

Midlands Air Ambulance Charity (MAAC) has completed a £2 million redevelopment of its Strensham air base, modernizing facilities to boost operational performance and improve crew welfare across the English counties of Gloucestershire, Herefordshire, and Worcestershire.

The upgraded base, officially unveiled on 30 October, was funded by a £2-million donation from the County Air Ambulance Trust HELP Appeal, the UK’s only charity dedicated to financing hospital helipads and air ambulance infrastructure. Construction work was carried out by A&H Construction & Developments, based in Halesowen.

The Strensham site, one of MAAC’s three air bases, has undergone a complete transformation to meet the demands of modern pre-hospital emergency care. The redevelopment includes an expanded hangar for the Strensham-based aircraft, G-OMAA, new crew accommodation, enhanced training and operational rooms, and upgraded community and charity spaces. Sustainable building methods and energy-efficient systems were incorporated throughout the design.

To mark the completion, MAAC hosted representatives from organizations involved in the project, including the HELP Appeal, Roadchef, A&H Construction, and Babcock. Visitors toured the new facilities and met with crewmembers, volunteers, and former patients, who shared insights into how the improvements would enhance service delivery.

Hanna Sebright, Chief Executive of Midlands Air Ambulance Charity, said the redevelopment represented a major step forward for the organization: “This transformative project, made possible through the generosity of the HELP Appeal, strengthens our ability to respond quickly to emergencies while improving facilities for our crew and creating new opportunities to connect with the communities we serve.”

Robert Bertram, Chief Executive of the HELP Appeal, described the investment as vital for the region’s emergency response: “This new air base isn’t just bricks and mortar – it’s a lifeline that will help crews reach patients faster and deliver lifesaving care when every second counts.”

MAAC recently renewed its flight operations contract with Babcock for another 10 years.
