Montenegro to lease firefighting plane for summer months
The aircraft will be used to strengthen the country’s wildfire-fighting capacity in the months of June, July, and August
The government of Montenegro has allocated €3.5 million in funds to support the three-month lease of an aerial firefighting aircraft ahead of this summer’s fire season.
The aircraft, which will strengthen the Balkan nation’s firefighting capacity, will be flying alongside Montenegro’s existing firefighting fleet.
The existing fleet comprises three Air Tractor AT-802s, with a capacity of 3 tons per drop, and three helicopters with a capacity of 1.5 tons per drop.
In contrast the new, unspecified aircraft, which will be available for the months of June, July, and August, will reportedly have a capacity of 5–10 tons, according to a report by local news outlet PGTV.
Amentum recently secured a contract from the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) to provide comprehensive aerial firefighting support across the US state.
