Monuments and buildings will illuminate to mark Air Ambulance Week

To mark Air Ambulance Week 2023 – running from 4–10 September – various engagement and awareness events are taking place, including the illumination of famous monuments across the UK.

On the night of 7 September, buildings and monuments will be lit up in the colors of their regional air ambulances to promote their work.

The sites include:

• Wellington Monument, Somerset
• Corfe Castle, Dorset
• Warwick Castle, Warwickshire
• EY Building, London
• Dudley Castle, West Midlands
• Ely Cathedral, Cambridgeshire.

Air Ambulance Week has been organized by Air Ambulances UK, the national charity supporting the work of the UK’s air ambulance charities.

The charity is also bringing attention to the shortage of pilots and particularly women in aviation by promoting The British Women Pilots’ Association (BWPA).

The BWPA offers scholarships every year to support women in the UK of all ages and backgrounds in achieving their flying dreams, underlying one of its key aims, of promoting women’s training and employment within the sector.

This week has seen the association’s scholarship application process open, through which they will offer at least 15 scholarships to women pilots at all levels of experience and across all types of flying.

The awards could help winners to gain their first qualifications, build upon existing qualifications, or work towards a first paid flying job – such as an air ambulance pilot.
