New drone training system for Ulsan Fire Department
South Korean virtual reality (VR) firm YoYo Interactive will work with Ulsan Fire Department to develop a training system for drone operators
According to a report by Aju Korea Daily, YoYo will work with the fire department to develop a ‘virtual training system’ that employs a ‘three-dimensional map in the virtual space’ to support the training of firefighters in ‘reconnaissance and rescue-related training’.
Uncrewed aerial vehicles (UAV) are commonly used by firefighters in South Korea to tackle wildfires in mountainous areas, find lost people in forested areas, as well as to assist victims of shipwrecks.
It is hoped that the system will improve the efficiency of training, as well as offer an inexpensive and less dangerous alternative to conventional training.
Imperial College London and the Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Science and Technology recently showcased a heat-resistant drone capable of entering burning buildings.
