New drones for Ohio nature reserves
The drones will be used by Cleveland Metroparks to provide emergency response and law enforcement support
Cleveland Metroparks, a network of nature reserves in the US state of Ohio, has announced plans to use a fleet of drones for emergency response and police support.
The department that oversees the parks confirmed that it would begin a trial of the new drones, acquired through an agreement with manufacturer Brinc, in May of this year.
The trial will run for one year and, if successful, will have the option for a three-year extension.
A key use of the drones will be to assist in water rescues and other emergencies, but they may also be used to assist in the gathering of information on potential crimes on behalf of the local police. The drones are also capable of carrying medical items such as EpiPens.
Police in Coconut Creek, Florida, recently announced plans for a new drone unit.
