New issue out now – the Aerial Firefighting Edition
The latest issue of AirMed&Rescue is available to read online now, and includes exclusive features and unique insights into the aerial firefighting missions sector, as well as neonatal transport, and solutions for patient airway management
We’ve gone all over the world to bring you the latest developments in the world of fighting fires in the air. In Colorado, US, collaboration, innovation and technology are coming together in a triumvirate of power that aims to quench fires before they can take hold and cause the level of destruction that has sadly become all too common. Cameras that transmit real-time images to crews, apps that share live information about outbreaks, head-mounted displays that overlay fire information to pilots flying missions, and drones that can minimize risk to crews, are all coming together to make aerial firefighting safer and more effective.
From the Asia Pacific, we offer a snapshot of the latest investments in fleets from different countries, while we also look in detail at the royal commission review into Australia’s Black Summer, which recommended major investment in aircraft, tracking software and enhanced communication capabilities to boost the nation’s ability to fight fires in the future.
For the non aerial firefighters amongst our readers, our Medical Insight piece describes the best ways of avoiding hypothermia in the transportation of neonatal patients; and I spoke to Paul Swinton, a paramedic who aims to improve critical care airway management through his development of SCRAM, which aims to help emergency medics have the right tool for the job to hand at the right time.
