North Flight Aero Med acquires new helicopter
North Flight Aero Med, based in the US state of Michigan, has announced the arrival of a new Sikorsky S-76 C++ air ambulance helicopter
The rotorcraft will be stationed at North Flight Aero Med’s base in Traverse City, Michigan, and will be used to offer air medical services across the north of the US state, and in neighboring regions.
The service, which is co-run by two US-based health systems – Munson Healthcare and Corewell Health – stated that the new aircraft will replace an older Sikorsky S-76B as its primary helicopter.
The Sikorsky S-76 C++ is expected to offer better fuel efficiency and improved avionics and instrument flight rules (IFR) capabilities compared with its predecessor.
Additionally, its clinical capabilities include blood products, specialty medications, high-flow nasal cannula, cardiac device transport and neonatal transports, as well as a new stretcher system developed in partnership with Spectrum Aeromed and Stryker.
North Flight Aero Med previously acquired a Beechcraft King Air B-250 fixed-wing aircraft in March 2023, which it uses for long-range medical transfers.
