Nova Systems will integrate advanced mission systems into StarFlight’s Tasmanian helicopter operations, boosting search and rescue, air medical, and law enforcement capabilities

StarFlight, the Australian aviation provider recently awarded the contract to deliver helicopter emergency air services in Tasmania from January 2026, has appointed Nova Systems to integrate advanced mission systems across the state’s fleet. Nova Systems is an Australian engineering and technology company specializing in the integration of mission-critical systems for aircraft, helicopters, and defense operations.

Through the partnership, Nova Systems will support the delivery of enhanced helicopter emergency air services, with the upgraded platforms set to strengthen aeromedical retrieval, search and rescue (SAR), and airborne law enforcement operations in demanding conditions and environments.

The integration will include electro-optical and infrared sensors, a mission management system with augmented reality mapping, and satellite-enabled downlink capability. These technologies will enable real-time imagery and data to be streamed directly to ground personnel, improving coordination during time-critical missions such as searches for people who are lost on land and at sea, and law enforcement activities.

In addition, the fleet will be fitted with enhanced air medical systems, including improved patient loading equipment designed to reduce transfer times and deliver better clinical outcomes.

Nova Systems CEO Dean Rosenfield commented: “Our focus is on keeping people safe, and through this work with StarFlight and the Tasmanian Government, we will provide world-class capabilities through new technology that will assist emergency services in Tasmania to do their jobs more effectively.”

Shaun Gillott, Head of Business Development and Growth at StarFlight, added: “Our priority was to identify the right partner to integrate the mission systems for this project. Nova Systems stood out through their combination of global expertise and strong Australian foundations, which align well with StarFlight’s objectives. Their contribution will complement our operation in Tasmania and help us deliver enhanced services to the community.”
