The PHI Air Medical base in Dallas, Texas has announced a significant milestone in its area of critical care transport. In partnership with the region’s Medical City Healthcare (MCH), the air ambulance provider has successfully completed 100 extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO)-related transfers.

ECMO is a lifesaving medical procedure that provides temporary heart and lung support to patients with severe respiratory and cardiac failure. PHI was one of the first air medical providers to offer ECMO transfers, which require rapid specialized transport, in its fleet of EC135s.

The company credits the success of its Dallas ECMO program largely to the strength of its relationship with MCH, and their shared commitment.

“The relationship between MCH, the MCH ECMO and specialty transport teams, and PHI is like no other in the air medical industry,” said PHI Base Supervisor Jason Piecek. “It still amazes me to see what we have accomplished, and I know there are more great achievements still to come.”

PHI extended its gratitude to MCH for entrusting it with these critical patient transfers. The air ambulance provider was looking forward to continuing to provide lifesaving ECMO transport services to those who need them, it said.
