Police in Denver, Colorado, launch DFR program
The drones – a pair of Skydio X10s – are being used to provide an early response across the US city
Police in Denver, Colorado, have launched a new drone-as-first-responder (DFR) program, utilizing two Skydio X10 drones.
The drones, which have been in operation since mid-October, fly from two docking stations installed on the roof of the Denver Police Administration Building in the city center.
The aircraft are capable of operating within a range of 2NM (3.7km), and use Flock Aerodome’s air support system, according to a report by local news broadcaster Denver7.
They are being used to respond to a range of incidents, including reports of robberies, burglaries, violence, and weapons or narcotics-related offences.
A police department in Coconut Creek, in the US state of Florida, also recently announced plans to launch a drone program.
