The company will install the system on its AS332 Super Puma rotorcraft fleet, to support its upcoming aerial firefighting operations this year

Precision, an aviation services provider based in the US state of Oregon, plans to install GPMS International’s Foresight MX health and usage monitoring system (HUMS) on its Airbus AS332 Super Puma helicopter fleet.

The systems, ordered last year, will be used by Precision to improve the standard of maintenance given to its Super Puma fleet, with the aim of making the company “the first AS332 operator to utilize advanced HUMS for firefighting support in the US and beyond”.

GPMS stated that it was working with Precision to complete certification of the system for the AS332, ahead of the start of the summer fire season. The initial installation of the systems is expected to begin in the next few weeks.

According to Grayson Barrows, the General Manager of Precision’s Part 145 repair station: “The predictive capabilities of Foresight MX will allow us to become more proactive rather than reactive, allowing us to shift to more scheduled than unscheduled maintenance.  With these additional insights, we’ll be able to shrink our AOG (aircraft on ground) expenses and be ready to fly when the call comes in to dispatch.”

Barrows added that the new HUMS would offer a superior experience to that given by the one it replaced: “Many AS332 operators like us removed the original OEM system many years ago because of how heavy and expensive it was to maintain. We also anticipated potential obsolescence issues and knew we had to get ahead of it to future-proof our aircraft.”

GPMS International previously announced an order for the Foresight MX system from PJ Helicopters last month.
