Prince William expected to quit HEMs duties
Duke of Cambridge will be stopping his work as a helicopter pilot with the organisation to focus more on his royal duties.
Prince William is set to end his role with UK HEMs charity East Anglian Air Ambulance (EAAA), according to reports across the UK news media. The Sunday Times newspaper reported that the Duke of Cambridge will be stopping his work as a helicopter pilot with the organisation to focus more on his royal duties. He is expected to finish in ‘just a few months’.
A ‘royal source’ close to Prince William spoke about his increased royal duties, saying: “He knew there would come a point where this would be his life for ever more. He has always been a lot less reluctant than people think to take on more [royal] work and this phase of his life.”
Prince William began working with the helicopter charity in 2015 on a two-year contract. He recently spoke about how much he enjoyed the work, but that also it can be ‘quite difficult’: “I’ve had too many sad families in the air ambulance.”
AirMed and Rescue contacted Kensington Palace, but a representative declined to comment on the issue. EAAA has also not commented.
