The government of Quebec in Canada has announced that it will now allow parents to accompany their sick or injured children if they are medically evacuated, in a change to standard policy. Following calls from a trio on physicians in Montreal, Health Minister Gaetan Barrette said that at least one parent would now be permitted to join their child on an air ambulance flight. The pilot of the aircraft would have final say on whether a relative can be brought onboard, added the Minister, bearing in mind any security considerations.
Previously, the government said that it was due to a lack of space onboard the aircraft that prevented family members from accompanying their children in the past, but that two of the air ambulances currently in use have space for a parent or guardian.
