Recoil receives approval for 1,000gal tsunami wildfire suppression tank on Black Hawks

The approval expands global deployment options for operators seeking higher-volume aerial firefighting capability on the Black Hawk platform

Recoil Aerospace has announced the approval of a 1,000gal capacity for its supplemental type certificate (STC) SR02584AK covering the UH-60 Black Hawk Tsunami external wildfire suppression tank. The expanded capacity adds to Recoil’s growing list of international certifications.

Certified approvals include:

  • Federal Aviation Administration (FAA): SR02584AK
  • European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA): 10084620
  • Canada: SR02584AK
  • Agência Nacional de Aviação Civil (Anac) Brazil: 2024S12-08
  • Australia: SR02584AK
  • Mexico: IA-1012/2025
  • Morocco: SR02584AK
  • South Korea: SR02584AK.

The STC is applicable to all UH-60 type certificate holders as well as all UH-60 and S-70 Black Hawk variants.

“With multiple STCs approved, we can offer Black Hawk operators this proven, US-made aerial firefighting solution for the current and upcoming wildfire seasons,” stated Recoil President Joseph Rice. “Our rapid installation, full tank retraction and the industry’s fastest approved airspeed allows high-volume water delivery with rapid turnarounds.”

The new approval enables US firefighting programs to integrate the expanded-capacity tank immediately, supporting improved aerial firefighting effectiveness as wildfire seasons intensify. Recoil Aerial Fire Suppression System (AFSS) tanks are available for immediate acquisition.

Tsunami UH-60 external tank system features include:

  • 1,000gal/4,000L capacity
  • Aerospace carbon fiber construction
  • 130kt VNE
  • Pulse lights
  • Night vision goggles (NVG) or night vision imaging systems (NVIS) infrared (IR) lights
  • 132L integrated foam tank
  • Installation/removal in minutes
  • Minimal airframe modification
  • Reduced pilot training time
  • Tsunami tank crew orientation training
  • Global customer support and service.

The low-profile Tsunami external tank mounts directly to the fuselage, requiring no modifications to the helicopter landing gear.

Recoil Tsunami tanks are manufactured in partnership with Kentucky-based Aerospace Composites Solutions (ACS), which operates an AS9100-certified manufacturing facility.
