Swiss air rescue service Rega has signed a new agreement with the Geneva University Hospitals (HUG) and the State Council of the Canton of Geneva for the continuation of operations in the canton

Under the new agreement, Rega will station a new five-bladed Airbus H145 helicopter at its base at Geneva Airport. In addition, the base itself will undergo significant modernization under the agreement, including the enlargement and improvement of its hangar, as well as the construction of new bedroom quarters for crews to support night-time operations.

In addition, the agreement ‘regulates the cooperation with HUG’, said Rega, including its status as the official provider of medical personnel to the base.

Rega added that the new agreement ‘does not change anything in terms of calling out the rescue helicopter, which is stationed at Geneva Airport’, with the aircraft still being dispatched by the cantonal emergency call center contacted by dialling 144.

The agreement renews a long-standing partnership between the three organizations, which dates back to the signing of the first cooperation agreement in 1987. Rega’s Geneva base now operates around 400 missions per year in the canton. In addition, the service’s operations nationwide came to the assistance of over 12,000 people last year.
