SAF Helicópteros España expands emergency response network with new base in Navarra
The new base supports medical transport and firefighting missions through a multi-aircraft emergency services partnership in northern Spain
SAF Helicopters has expanded its emergency aviation network in Spain with the opening of a new operational base in Miluze, near Pamplona, strengthening air medical and emergency response capabilities in the Navarra region.
The base became operational under a contract supporting the regional emergency service 112 Navarra. Operations are being delivered in partnership with Sky Helicópteros.
The agreement provides for four emergency helicopters, with SAF Helicopters supplying the dedicated medical helicopter and Sky Helicópteros operating three aircraft for aerial firefighting missions.
According to the operator, the new base was established following coordination between flight operations, maintenance, planning, and support teams to ensure the service entered operation safely and efficiently.
The expansion increases SAF Helicopters’ operational footprint in Spain, where the company supports a range of emergency aviation missions, including helicopter emergency medical services (HEMS).
By combining air medical and firefighting resources at a single location, the base is intended to enhance emergency response capability across the region while improving coordination between participating organizations.
“We would like to express our sincere thanks to 112 Navarra for the trust placed in our team, as well as to the entire Sky Helicópteros team, and all the people who have made this important project possible,” the team said in an announcement on LinkedIn.
The addition of the Navarra base reflects continued investment in regional HEMS and special mission infrastructure across Europe as operators seek to improve response times and strengthen resilience during periods of high operational demand.
Elsewhere in the sector, Spain recently took delivery of its first Airbus C295W Maritime Surveillance Aircraft (MSA), which will support search and rescue, maritime surveillance, and security missions as part of a wider fleet modernization program.
