Santa Fe Police launch drone program
Santa Fe Police Department, in the US State of New Mexico, has announced the launch of a new drone program
The program will have five new uncrewed aerial vehicles (UAV), initially operated by six certified pilots.
The UAVs will provide a range of support to officers on the ground, including offering the ability to provide aerial footage of crime scenes or developing situations, as well as enhancing search and rescue operations.
Similar programs are already in operation in other jurisdictions across New Mexico, including with the Alburquerque Police Department, the Bernalillo County Sheriff, and the New Mexico State Police.
The State of Illinois recently updated its laws governing the use of drones by police to include the monitoring of large public gatherings.
