Second NSW RFS contingent deployed to Canada to fight wildfires
Officials are warning this could be the country’s worst wildfire to date
Australia’s New South Wales (NSW) Rural Fire Service (RFS) has sent a second team of 49 personnel to Canada on 6 June to assist in firefighting efforts in Alberta.
The personnel travelled after another formal request was made by the Canadian Interagency Forest Fire Centre.
Of the 49 personnel from NSW:
- 28 are from the RFS
- 10 are from NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service
- Six are from Forestry Corporation NSW
- Four are from Fire and Rescue NSW
- One is from NSW State Emergency Service.
This second group is made up of firefighters and people to fulfil the roles of incident management and aviation.
They are expected to be needed in Canada for up to 42 days.
Bridger Aerospace deployed six aircraft to Canada this week to assist in firefighting efforts.
