Sri Lankan aviation provider Senok Air has announced that it has completed 400 air medical flights across the South Asian island nation.

The company, which operates from Colombo Airport in Ratmalana in the southwest of the country, is Sri Lanka’s only authorized helicopter emergency medical services (HEMS) operator.

Alongside HEMS operations, the company also provides search and rescue (SAR), organ transportation, and interhospital transfer services.

Sri Lanka suffers from challenging road infrastructure, making parts of the country hard to reach by ground-based transport. This, combined with efforts to develop the nation’s healthcare system, has translated into growing demand for Senok Air’s HEMS services.

The government of Sri Lanka has been deploying military drones to identify mosquito breeding pools, in an effort to battle a severe outbreak of dengue.
