Spectrum Aeromed unveils LOX solutions
The company has five supplemental type certificate (STC) applications for the technology’s integration in five aircraft
Spectrum Aeromed, a designer of air medical equipment for helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft, has announced a new range of liquid oxygen (LOX) solutions.
The company has been working for the past five years with Missouri-based firm Essex Industries to develop the solutions, which will be showcased at the Air Medical Transport Conference (AMTC) in Columbus, Ohio, on 23–25 October.
Through the partnership, Spectrum has successfully incorporated Essex Industries’ LOX technology into five STC applications for the Leonardo AW109/119; Bell 407 and 429; Beechcraft King Air 300 Series; and the Pilatus PC-12.
LOX technology offers significant size advantages compared with its gaseous equivalent – a 10,000L orb of oxygen gas the size of a basketball is equivalent to a standard 3,500L compressed tank of liquid oxygen.
“We have observed a growing demand for these solutions in the aviation industry, both domestically and internationally, due to the benefits they offer in terms of safety, costs, and operational efficiency,” said Vicki Pettus, Senior Contracts Administrator at Essex Industries.
Spectrum Aeromed announced that it was expanding its engineering team to support its new focus on air medical solutions earlier this year.
