Tehama County buys police SAR helicopter
California’s Tehama County Sheriff’s Office has acquired a Bell UH-1H helicopter for use by its aviation unit
The aircraft, registration N911NN, was purchased from Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office, Louisiana, and was acquired through a military surplus program.
The UH-1H will primarily be used for search and rescue (SAR) operations, and will be equipped with a forward-looking infrared (FLIR) camera system acquired from a police department in the Netherlands.
The aircraft is currently undergoing routine inspections and maintenance prior to its official launch into service in mid-November.
Spokane County Sheriff’s Office, in the US state of Washington, also announced plans to buy a new helicopter.
