Tenerife hires two firefighting helicopters
The island government of Tenerife has announced that it has allocated €7.7 million to hire two firefighting helicopters
The aircraft – to be supplied by Eliance Helicopter Global Services – will support the island’s wildfire fighting efforts from next year until 2028.
The rotorcraft will be based at Tenerife South Airport. One of the helicopters will be operational all year round, while the second will be active for 180 days per year to provide reinforcement during the peak fire season.
The two helicopters will be used both to drop water and retardant on fires, and to transport firefighting personnel and equipment to the site of incidents.
Japan’s Oita Prefecture also recently ordered a new firefighting helicopter.
