Toll Group signs major deal with South Australian government for enhanced services

Toll Group, a provider of global logistics services, has secured a 15-year government contract to enhance South Australia’s emergency response, law enforcement, public safety, and healthcare.

Awarded by the Attorney-General’s Department of South Australia, the 15-year contract will see Toll provide a fleet of eight aircraft specifically deployed to provide vital services, including law enforcement, search and rescue (SAR), and medical transport.

Under the contract, Toll Group will partner with a range of expert subcontractors, including the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) South Australia/Northern Territory, and Gunggandji Aerospace through the Indigenous Defence & Infrastructure Consortium, to provide airborne law enforcement, SAR, and medical transport services.

The Toll Aviation fleet will include:

• South Australia Police fleet:

  •   rotary-wing: two Bell 429 helicopters configured to support airborne law enforcement missions, capable of high speeds of up to 287km/h and range of up to 593km, supporting rapid deployment and response
  •   fixed-wing: two fixed-wing aircraft including a Pilatus PC-12 NG and Cessna C208B EX. The PC-12 NG is a high-performance, pressurised aircraft with exceptional range and payload capacity. The C208B EX is a versatile aircraft ideally suited to policing operations and capable of landing on sealed and unsealed surfaces
   

• SA Ambulance Service MedSTAR fleet:

  •   rotary-wing: three Leonardo AW139 helicopters with speeds of up to 309km/h and a range of up to 698km for SAR and emergency medical retrieval operations. These aircraft will be configured with a custom-built HeliMods medical retrieval cabin
  •   fixed-wing: a Pilatus PC-12 NG aircraft for use in emergency aeromedical retrieval. The aircraft will be available as an additional quick response medical retrieval aircraft, increasing capacity to treat and retrieve the sickest patients from regional South Australia.
   

In addition to the fleet, Toll Group in partnership with the RFDS will deliver specialised training for the ambulance service, police service and Gunggandji teams to ensure the highest level of operational readiness. This will include high-fidelity flight simulators for pilots and crew, cabin trainers and extended reality (XR) crew procedural trainers to prepare crews for emergency scenarios, and advanced mission systems for surveillance, SAR, and medical transport.

Toll Group recently acquired Pel-Air, expanding its air medical service.
