The UAE’s National Search and Rescue Center (NSRC) has introduced Vita Aerospace’s Vita Rescue System (VRS) across its operational fleet

The VRS is a device designed to prevent the spinning of medevac litters during hoisting. The system employs sensors to detect spinning or swaying motion, and counteract it using four integrated bi-directional fans. It can operate both autonomously and manually, enabling hoist operations to be conducted up to four times faster than traditional methods.

It will be employed on NSRC rescue missions throughout the UAE and the wider Arabian Gulf region. Vita said the system’s adoption by the NSRC is expected to play a key role in the organization’s efforts to ‘develop operational standards via exchanging information and expertise’.

“The deployment of the Vita Rescue System across the entire fleet is yet another step towards achieving our vision of enhancing our readiness, response and operational capabilities,” said Dr Stephen Toumajan, NSRC General Manager.

The VRS has completed developmental flight testing at the US Army Aeromedical Research Laboratory, to ensure the device would perform in various operational environments. The VRS was tested on the SKEDCO Basic Rescue System and the Stokes Rescue Litter. The US Army procured 15 of the systems in December 2021 for this purpose.
