Airbus Helicopters has selected Universal Avionics to supply its EVS4000 multispectral Enhanced Vision cameras for installation on eight H145 helicopters being manufactured for the Bavarian Police

The cameras are designed to improve situational awareness in low-visibility conditions, including inclement weather and during night operations, and will display video on the H145’s Helionix multifunctional displays.

The cameras offer real-time processing capabilities, with the ability to merge conventional high-definition video with near and long wave infrared and is compatible with Universal Avionics’ ClearVision head-wearable and helmet-mounted displays.

The cameras meet civil certification standards for the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), the Civil Aviation Authority of China (CAAC), the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

The eight H145s are due for delivery from next year

The eight five-bladed helicopters were ordered by the state of Bavaria’s Ministry of the Interior on behalf of the state’s police force in December 2021, following a European tendering process earlier in the year.

The aircraft are intended to replace the state’s current H135 fleet and will be stationed at bases in Munich and Roth. The first delivery is planned for 2023.
