US Guardsmen take part in casualty training in Mongolia

Guardsmen from the Alaska Army, US are currently taking part in Tactical Combat Casualty Care during Exercise Khaan Quest 2018, which runs from 14 to 28 June at Five Hills Training Area, Mongolia, with the Mongolian Armed Forces.

Now in its 16th year, Khaan Quest is hosted annually by the Mongolian Armed Forces, and is co-sponsored by US Pacific Command. Sixteen nations join the US and Mongolian forces in the continuing series of exercises designed to promote regional peace and security.

The training revolves around the MARCH algorithm: massive bleeding, airway control, respiratory support, circulation and hypothermia prevention. Participants were taught to stabilise a wounded comrade before they could be evacuated to medical care in isolation, and then in a simulated movement to contact manoeuvre.

&quotMARCH allows us to greatly increase the survivability of traumatic injuries, and it ultimately allows Soldiers to go home alive,&quot said Staff Sgt Stephen Behrens, Alaska Army National Guard Medical Detachment training non-commissioned officer.
